Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh), a 55-year-old Chinese American immigrant, has a family and career breakdown. On the day of her father’s birthday, she has to stop her daughter (Karen Hui) from coming out of the closet, wipe her useless husband’s ass (Kwan Jee-wai), and go to the tax office to explain to the old lady (Jamie Lee Curtis) about the not-so-good tax problem.
Only when she steps into the elevator of the building, her soft-skinned husband turns into a Matrix actor, claiming that he is a version of an alternate universe and that Xiu-Lian is one of the millions of universes. It is too late to understand that the forces of evil have spread in the multiverse and the world is about to be destroyed. Only in this universe can the “useless” Evelyn save the world ……
